Stoked for Stokke

Colin and I braved the Nursery world this weekend. After an all-nighter cleaning out the guest bedroom (soon to be baby room), we wanted to do some research for the crib. Secondarily I wanted to get a feel for what we can put in that room so that I can lay the furniture out mentally and visualize what I am going to do with the walls. I have ideas for what kind of a theme to decorate the baby's room in, and definitely want it to be about animals and/or the ocean.

When we went to Lullaby Lane in San Bruno we were in for some schooling. I learned that about 80% of their cribs are conversion beds, so that the crib can be used for a newborn, then convert to a toddler size (with a guard rail), and then later into a twin sized bed (with headboard). We were quite overwhelmed by the options and prices, in addition to the commitment of knowing our child would be stuck with the same Sea Mist colored bed that mom picked out one crazy day in July 2010.

We decided to keep our eyes peeled for these cribs online.

Until we were walking out the store and discovered the Stokke Sleepi crib system:

Stokke® Care™ Changing Table - Walnut
This is a crib that grows with the baby as well: adjustable from bassinet size to crib size, is compact, durable, minimalist, and has wheels to cart around! Luckily when I got home I found a Stokke Crib system sold with a matching Changing station/ shelving unit on Craigslist for a very reasonable price! So I'm real 'Stoked' to be bringing home baby girl's first Nursery crib & changing station tomorrow!

As for the walls, we would like our baby to slumber in an ocean-like room. I was really in love with the title/opening art in the Animation Ponyo. I'm going to paint a mural inspired by scenes from Ponyo's title art for our girl's room, hopefully making it agreeable for a boy's room as well if we ever have future boys down the road. I've got a few art projects lined up in addition to the mural, including painting some ocean animals to hang on the wall in frames or plaques.

In fact, I drew this out before so the mural will look a little like this:
