April has been full of many more new discoveries with Kirra. Her vocabulary is growing by the day, as well as her charm. It's as if she wakes up each day on a mission to share with Colin, me & Gus and the world around her what she's out to achieve. Maybe a clip she wants to fasten (seatbelt on her high chair for instance), new coloring crayons she wants to throw to the floor, begging for nuts (she loves cashews at the moment), closing doors or anything open in her way, visiting sleeping Gus and patting him on his butt or his head (saying "Dus! Ear? Cheet?"), or lately she's been clinging to my legs when I won't pick her up (she is heavy!). Instead I offer her my hand to hold which seems to be an okay replacement.
I am cherishing these 1:1 moments with Kirra and trying to give her as much attention as I can because I don't want to miss a thing. I love hearing new words or phrases she learns (a new one is 'I get it!' when she fetches a ball), and I even love talking to and teaching her about something she is doing - like when we color together and I'm showing her how to fill in an animal I just drew for her. She's even got the animal sound down-- like when I drew a picture of a bird and she said 'Caw! Caw!' for a crow, which she sees a lot of from our dining table through the window across the street at our neighbor's roofs.
Kirra, you have been a sweet, charming, patient, mellow and fast-learning baby girl for these 17 months. Pretty soon you will be sharing mom and dad's attention with another baby- your baby brother. We have so much to look forward in seeing you blossom even more, teaching and loving your little brother how to embrace the world around him like you do. We will still be behind you in support and happily cheering on your growing collection of many more first discoveries. How lucky you will be to have a new audience to watch you- your loving little baby brother.
