So Colin met me up for dinner tonite at Win 's in Sf on Taraval after work while I waited for my prescription to be filled. He asked me if I got a new toy for Gus. I said no, what toy?
He said Gus was carrying around a rubber ducky after Colin fed him dinner. Since I didn't know which ducky this was I asked if it was small (I think Gillian may have left a small toy on our bathroom sink). He said it was a yellow normal sized ducky.
Hmm could it have been the ducky Colin got from the Google paternity leave baby shower? Where he got a green soft baby blanket and a rubber ducky? Yep that must be it. I leave all bambina's things in her closet- like gifts she's getting from friends or decorations for the nursery. So when I left the door to the room open, he must have gone in there, snooped in the closet, and helped himself to the rubber ducky in a brown bag on the floor. Am I surprised? Well even though its awfully cute that Gus is finding new toys that may squeek and marking them 'HIS', I think maybe he senses that he needs to reinforce his status as the king baby of the house.
Just this weekend as Colin and I worked on the mural more Gus came in from time to time to accompany us. Just yesterday when I was getting ready after showering I found Gus enter the nursery (no one else was in there) and he curled in a ball in the corner of the room- where the floor plastic bunches by the piles of paint cans and step stools. He even fell asleep there for some time.
Perhaps Gus does sense a baby is coming, someone who his mom and dad have been giddy over and preparing their lifestyles and home for. Or maybe Gus just thinks: aww. Mom and dad are giving me my own room! And leaving me new toys to play with!
Sweet. Gus you will always be our baby boy, but you've got a baby sister who you'll learn to love and nurture as much as we all do.
hola! Gus is so adorable! :)
