Kirra's first fever

Yesterday we came home early from work to pick up kirra from daycare. The night before she had diarrhea in her sleep and for the past few days she's been congested. We considered not taking her to daycare but because she did not have a runny nose we thought she was okay.

She did not eat her lunch at daycare and even vomited after she was given some milk in a bottle. Then her temperature rose and sick sad Kirra began to get clingy. When I picked her up from daycare at 2 o'clock, she was being held- she was calm and not in a good mood. Not playful,  not smiling,  not laughing. In fact she would rest her head on your shoulder if you carried her. Her head, ears, body were all hot.

At home her temperature read 104 degrees F. After calling the Nurse at the pediatrian's office we were instructed to treat her for stomach bug or teething symptoms before coming in- they didnt need us to come in. Teething made sense BC two on the bottom are coming through and we know some kids have a fever with teeing. BUT kirra never had fevers with her previous teething episodes. Actually she only drooled and woke up several times at night.

We gave her baby acetaminophen (tylenol) and that really worked for the fever. It went down to 101 a half hour later, and down to 97 a couple hours after that.

So for tummy bug we are not giving her solids today but can give clear liquids like water, apple juice (she doesn't like and we never gave it to her before), and broth. She liked the broth at first but the later during dinnertime she refused it.

Today since she still had only wet diapers and no poop all day I offered kirra water when she woke at 4:45am but she wouldn't take it. I heated up 6oz of Breastmilk (frozen stash is down to the last 3 bags!!!!) And she drank it all in two sessions. She was stuffed up so it was hard for her to breathe.

Today her mood is lighter- she's cruising after toys, loveys, Phone, remotes, etc. Even pointing at books in her room so I've been reading them to her (she only wants to hold them, not really sit and listen to me). For breakfast she had two bites of mushed banana and two bites of her cereal. Fussed after that. I got her to sip only 3-4 Tablespoons of chicken broth, then fussed. She pointed at my bowl of oatmeal which she has had before and likes. So I offered and she ate spoon after spoonful willingly! I even cooked up a little bit more oatmeal for her and we ate it together.

Hope its just teething that ails her and not really a virus. I don't want to get sick from her or get the 2nd baby sick! Plus I just can't NOT kiss kirra especially when she's cuddling into my neck.

Update from 10.30.2011:

Kirra continued to have a fever of about 100 on day #2 (Thursday when i was home with her) and #3 (When both colin and i were home with her), but it always went down after Tylenol or Advil. We stopped with the broths/toast by day #4 because she just wasnt eating any of it but wanted real food and milk. So we started back up with the bottles, and I made a medium sized pot of jook (rice porridge) and she ate up every bowl i gave her. She is a true Asian baby!
She still remained clingy (especially with me) and we think it was due to teething because her diaper action went back to normal by day #4. She was still congested every night and morning, so we used saline sprays and the nose bulb, which she hates very much. By day #4 and #5 we were already into the weekend and had beautiful sunny weather to welcome us when we took a weekend getaway to Aptos in a mushroom shaped Cabin. She returned to her happy self, and her fever went away. Her appetite returned. But clingy, cuddly, lovey Kirra remained. I can't complain about that!
