Lil Liam the Brave
Liam has been seeing an Endocrinologist Doctor every 2 months of his life. Ever since he was 6 weeks old we discovered that he has congenital hypothyroidism. His TSH levels were at 14.0 (where the normal baby is at 5.0 or below) and his T4 levels were low.
Every day Liam must take a thyroid pill supplement in order for his thyroid levels to be balanced. All of this is in order to ensure a healthy growing baby, especially during the infant months where brain development is rapid. We slip the pill on the inside of his cheek when we give him his morning bottle.
Prior to each Dr appointment we must take bloodwork so that we can look at how his TSH and T4 levels are doing. He is so used to the bloodwork that this past visit he did not even cry when they secured the turnicate or the needle. What a brave lil man. He was even flirting with the Nurse!
In this past visit we learned that his TSH levels are increasing. At his 3 month appt TSH went down to 2.0. At 5 month appt TSH was 2.1. 7 month appt up to 3.0, and recently at the 9 month appt it was 3.8. If his next blood draw shows his TSH levels are approaching 4.0 then the Dr will prescribe a higher dosage of Thyroxin, (which is the T4). His TSH is probably increasing due to him growing and needing more T4.
His stats:
Liam weighs 19.35 pounds. He is 29.5 inches long. His head circumference is 47.5cm.
