1000's not 1's

I received my hCG bloodwork today (from Monday (4.20.09) and it came out Positive for pregnancy. Test was taken 48 days since my last period. My hCG levels were in the 1000's. It was at 1819 international units per liter (IU/L) whereas last month it was only at 8, which was really almost negative. This is a good sign and I will re-test bloodwork today to see if the hCG is doubled- an indication of growth, which is important in the first trimester. I'm just stoked that we're above the triple digits and not in the single digits. Trying not to get too stuck on numbers but it's hard. I'm curious to know if the hCG levels will give me a base for how far along I am.
The human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG) test is done to check for the hormone hCG in blood or urine. Some hCG tests measure the exact amount and some just check to see if the hormone is present. HCG is made by the placenta during pregnancy. HCG helps to maintain your pregnancy and affects the development of your baby (fetus). Levels of hCG increase steadily in the first 14 to 16 weeks following your last menstrual period (LMP), peak around the 14th week following your LMP, and then decrease gradually. (WebMD.com)

  2. Yea! Now this is getting fun... I'll have to start controlling myself here soon, WAY too much experience in baby internet shopping. I haven't been this excited over a pregnancy test in 14 months :) Just think, if we are able to get pregnant early fall, we'll have babes that are only 1/2 apart... which is virtually nothing once they're past 2 years old. Yours will just boss mine around for those first two years :) Let me know how your second appointment goes. Love you!

  3. i'm so stoked too! if u guys get pregnant again, then bogart baby will just be sandwiched in between yours! yah i agree after 2 yrs old the ages won't really matter. all their toys and interests will be the same. oh how fun indeedy!

second appt was good- hCG levels rose to 5800 but it was apparently too long in between blood tests so i had to take another test today. it needed to be exactly 48 hours, no more no less, in order to see the hCH Levels double. any increase by less than double is a sign of complication.
