Its been a while since my last blogpost. Yikes there's so much to catch up on. Kirra is now just over 5 months old and has gotten the hang of bottle feeding. We got her taking a bottle at 4.5 months during night sleepy feedings and then one day I thought of switching to a faster flow (level 2) nipple on the bottle and she totally chugged it!
I am still breast feeding Kirra especially at night and early in the morning when we snooze in my bed. We also started having Kirra sleep in her own crib around 4 months because she was rolling over and rotating so the bassinet is too small for her. Since I am still home on maternity leave I do enjoy those extra 2-3 hours of snoozing while Kirra is a blabbing away and nursing when she's hungry.
When we do get out of bed at around 9 or 10 to start our day, a full days work is definitely had. If I'm not breastfeeding, I'm preparing/heating up bottles of my frozen + fresh Breastmilk, not I'm washing bottles, or I'm pumping, or I'm putting Kirra down for a nap, ur feeding her a bottle, or I'm changing Her diapers, or I'm making myself something to eat... its never ending and amazes me how quickly the hours in the day go by. I always think I can get some reading or drawing done while she naps But its not the case. (Ill post in another entry about the next batch of drawings I'm doing for La Tourangelle)
Kirra at 5 months is really showing us as parents how different it is to go about our activities and travels with a baby at Her age vs when she was only 2 months old. She requires naps now (which I do adhere to when its just us two) and she gets fussy when she doesn't sleep enough or misses a nap.
Also we used to be able to nurse her or hold her nicely and calmly until she fell asleep. Not so much. She is easily distracted when she eats, arms flying around, back arching, head turning, body twisting. We've begun re-swaddling her in a large sized sleep sack to help keep her calm and fall asleep easily. It seems to work well because she will sleep longer through the night (I check on her in case she rolls know her face/tummy), and she also seems to resist sleeping if I ever rock her to sleep without being swaddled.
So these are the recent developments with Kirra, and more updates to come once we take on adventures in solid foods.
For now here is newly shaven Gus napping next to his buddy Kirra
